This was the Professor’s second Lucky Pro show so the promotion remains new to him.  Apologies for possibly getting some names wrong or not knowing exactly who everyone (including factions) was.  Promoter Jim Burgoyne put on one heck of a show last night in Hudson, MA

Lucky Pro Wrestling “Star Clash”

Hudson Elks Hudson, MA USA

June 20, 2014

Matches:

1.  Anthony Stone vs. Nick Westgate.  W – Stone

Referee Dan Tanaka.  This was a great opener.  Scientific with great mat wrestling and a wide variety of well-executed holds.  Both wrestlers did quite a few flips.  Stone wowed the crowd by doing a backwards flip off the top to land on Westgate who was stumbling around on the floor.  He sprung right up despite at least a 15 foot drop.  Later Stone tried to fly off the top turnbuckle onto an apparently dazed Westgate in the middle of the ring.  Surprise – Westgate got a foot up at the last second right in Mr. Stone’s face. Eventually Stone capitalized on a failed Suplex setup and got his off-the-top-ropes pin.

2. Nikki Valentine vs. Davienne.  W – Valentine

Ms. Valentine dominated based on superior skill and experience.  Davienne has improved but she’s nowhere near the level of Nikki Valentine.  There was some good back-and-forth.  Ms. Valentine poured water from a bottle onto a supine Davienne and then took some undetermined substance from her boot and apparently got it in Davienne’s eyes.  Clean pin.  Valentine is one of the the top 3 Female Wrestlers in New England and that is not about to change soon.

Promoter Jim Burgoyne

Mr. Burgoyne came out to welcome the fans to another well-packed show at the Hudson Elks. Rough estimate 200.  The sleazy sweater vest-wearing Brian Cairo, VP of LPW came out and spoiled Mr. Burgoyne’s spot, taunting him to leave “His” ring.  Mr. Burgoyne held his cool, took the high road, and left. The disrespect was answered later in the evening.

3. Todd Sople vs. Elia Markopoulos.  W – Sople

Mr. Sople got the upper hand early and smacked Hudson Native Markopoulos all over the ring.  Mr. Markopoulos managed a nice DDT on Sople and could have put him away but “All Good” Anthony Green interfered and got punched in the face for his trouble.  Sople quickly took advantage of the distraction and bounded off the canvas, punching Markopoulos in the groin from behind, grabbed his tights, and got the pin.  Not a good showing for Markopoulos.  The Professor had never seen him live, but had expected more based on NECW videos of his early days when he was teamed with Playboy Jimmy James and mentored by Mr. Fabulous himself.  Sople looked better than the other time The Professor has seen him.  He could spend a bit more time in the gym, but dangerous.  He outsmarted Mr. Markopoulos.

4. Lil Evil (with Devil’s Reject Brandon Webb) vs. Shady Shay Cash.  W – Lil Evil

Lil Evil, who reminds The Professor of Rob Araujo, is about 1/4 the size of the massive Cash.  He has great technical skill, spunk, and quickness.  He did his best and got a lot of good shots in but Mr. Cash used his size and dominated.  This did not deter or discourage Lil Evil, who kept at it.  Lil Evil consented to a Test-of-Strength and embarrassed Cash by flipping him.  Lil Evil at one point dived through the ropes onto a Cash outside the ring.

As Mr. Cash gloated and preened, a vocal group of twenty-something fans in the front row did some hilarious chants at Cash.  “Planet Fitness”, “Moby Dick”, and “Do a Pushup” were effective at taking Cash off his plan.  The Devil’s Reject did his job ringside and spit something into Mr. Cash’s eyes.  Lil Evil capitalized and got a clean pin.  While Cash was helped out of the ring by Referee Tanaka, the front row fans chanted “Do a Pushup” again as he was struggling to get off the floor.  This concluded with a chant of “Not Even One”.

5. Jason Blade & Anthony Green (with Daphne) vs. Vern Vicallo & Cam Zagami (with Davienne).   W – Blade & Green

A super high-energy match between four great competitors.  So much went on that its hard to highlight.  A few things – Green tried a Moonsault off the top rope and missed.  Quite a thud.  Young Zagami managed a Neckbreaker on Blade for a very slow 2 count with Green interfering.  Referee Tony (not sure of last name) is popular with fans but he did a TERRIBLE job in this match.  He couldn’t handle 6 people.  The match concluded with Blade putting Mr. Zagami in a Torture Rack.  Green dived on Zagami and they did a 2-on-1 pin.  That should have been enough but suddenly Todd Sople and Brian Cairo came out for a post-match beat down of Vicallo and Zagami.  The original participants piled on and it became a slaughter culminating with a snack tray being used to break Mr. Vicallo’s arm (arm jammed in like in a pair of scissors and Green jumped on it).  Mr. Vicallo was taken to the hospital.

6. “Ladies Man” Gregory Edwards vs. Tomahawk.  W – Tomahawk

The Professor couldn’t help but notice that Mr. Edwards bears a real resemblance to the Late Freddie Mercury of Queen.  The Front Row Chanters saw it too and did a round of “We Will Rock You”, followed by “We Will Chop You” (in reference to Tomahawk).  This match was full of chops as expected from both wrestlers.  Edwards provided some real comedy and worked the crowd beautifully.  The match concluded with the Mohawk delivering his signature Tomahawk Chop off the top rope for the pin.

7. LPW Heavyweight Championship Match – Brian Fury vs. Mikey Webb (C). – No Contest

Referee Dan Tanaka.  Another great match from two of the best in New England.  This could have been a wrestling seminar, given the demonstration of technical moves applied flawlessly by both men.  Fury at one point had Webb in a nasty crab.  Webb was trying to power out but the teacher seemed like he was going to hold on and be able to finish Webb.  Not so.  “High Society” (Sople, Sweater Vest, etc.) ran in and spoiled the match.  Zagami and Stone entered shortly after.  No contest was declared and Mr. Webb retained his belt.  Web and Fury have class.  They held each others’ hands up and shook hands.  Too bad that Cairo’s Skunks are allowed to run so wild at LPW. The Professor would prefer to see a definitive outcome in a title match.

Mr. Burgoyne came out and announced that he has had enough of Mr. Cairo and that all of this will be settled when LPW returns to Hudson on September 27th.  There will be a Steel Cage Match in which High Society will face 3 of Mr. Burgoyne’s choosing.  Loser leaves LPW.  Contracts to be signed on August 9th in Clinton, MA.

8. Alexxis Nevaeh vs. Taeler Hendrix.  W – Hendrix

Referee Natalia.  The Professor is quite familiar with Ms. Nevaeh, having seen her numerous times at NECW.  She’s one of the top 2 (with Mistress Belmont) in New England.  Seeing her as a heel was a real treat.  She was great.  She at one point slammed Hendrix hard and referenced the crowd as “Bitches”.  (The Front Row Chanters responded with “There are Kids”).  Alexxis demeaned Taeler by sticking her posterior in her opponent’s face while she was jammed into the corner.  Ms. Nevaeh clearly dominated as expected.  She’s a superior wrestler to Taeler Hendrix.  Hendrix holds her own and her physical presence, charm, and frankly looks, are every bit as impressive in person as on TV. (This is not to say that Nevaeh does not posses an equal measure of those attributes – she’s one-of-a-kind talent).

Hendrix has a height advantage but Nevaeh’s skills made it impossible for her to do much damage.  She got lucky and got the pin.  Alexxis then tried to take her frustration out on the ref.  Given that this was Natalia, it didn’t work.

It was great to see two Womens’ Matches on the same card.  This helps to move Female Wrestling from a novelty to being a main part of the show.  Good move by Mr. Burgoyne.

9. Main Event: “The Devil’s Reject” Brandon Webb & Kongo (with Lil Evil) vs. The Hurricane & Simon Dean (Nova)

Simon on mic asked the fans to alert him to when Lil Evil would inevitably interfere with the match.  Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Hurricane called him a Hobbit.  That upset Lil Evil visibly.

There was a lot of good comedy, frustration, embarrassing of Kongo by Simon, and some missed moves.  Hurricane put on a showcase of how to slam opponents over and over.  It all ended when Lil Evil tried to interfere and Hurricane had him in a quick pin. Kongo came in for the save and The Hurricane managed to do some Ring Judo and Kongo ended up on top of Lil Evil, both being pinned by The Hurricane.   This was an interesting and novel match.  A good way to end the night.
