1. D.J. A.C. vs. Dynamite Doug Summers – W. – D.J. A.C.
The Professor is well familiar with young D.J. A.C who is a rising star in the Southern New England scene. He captured Rookie of The Year and the SPW Heavyweight title very early in his career. Word from veteran wrestlers is that he is working at a level far beyond his brief time in the business.
Summers on the other hand is a veteran heel who is full of dirty tricks. We worried for the safety of the youth when this match was announced. Summers usually travels with a sneaky manager named Ashley Vox. Luckily for the DJ she was nowhere to be seen at the fairgrounds.
The fans quickly realized that they had a strong distaste for Mr. Summers, who reciprocated with some nasty remarks of his own. D.J. A.C took a measured approach, showing the discipline of a serious student (he still is) and found a way to avoid getting killed by the dangerous Summers. A.C. got the pin, and a victory in his debut for NECW.
D.J. A.C. is not only a talent, he has respect for this business and its fans. We hope that he’s given more matches in NECW.
2.The Glamour Express (Beautiful Buddy Romano & Pimp Daddy Mike Paiva) vs. “All Good” Anthony Greene & Johnny Torres. W. – The Glamour Express
When the erudite and sophisticated team entered it seemed beyond inevitable that their infant opponents would be leaving in an ambulance. The dapper Mssrs. Paiva and Romano were kind to the kids, defeating them more with skill than with violence. There was one priceless bit of sadism, when Paiva hung Torres upside down on the turnbuckle and proceeded to put all of his weight on one foot on the youth’s crotch. A valuable lesson for the lad, generously given by The Super Pimp.
There was one notable (and unusual) miscue for the Glamour Express. Pimp Daddy had his back turned and did a number on Buddy’s arm, thinking that it was one of the kids’. This was a bit embarrassing, but these things happen. Pimp Daddy also showed his class when he spit at the fans. When the veterans had enough, Paiva ambushed Torres while he conferred with partner Greene, rolling him up into a nice little ball.
After their defeat, Torres attacked Greene, likely in a fit of jealousy, since Greene is getting a push that Torres likely wants for himself. This set the stage for more mischief later in the evening.
Al Bassler Interviews Brad Hollister & Slyck Wagner Brown
The two rivals for the NECW Heavyweight Title were put together by the office. They don’t like it, and they don’t like each other. They agreed to work together against McCarthy & Todo Loco but just barely.
3. Tim Lennox vs. T.K. O’Ryan. W. – O’Ryan
Lennox was well-matched with veteran O’Ryan, making presumably his NECW debut. This was a vigorous match that could have gone either way. It ended when Mr. Lennox missed the chance to finish O’Ryan after a dizzying helicopter spin. Mr. O’Ryan smashed Lennox’ face on his shoulder and got the pin.
4. 10-Man Battle Royal. W. – Greene
This was a serviceable battle royal which culminated with young Greene as the last man standing. He eliminated turncoat partner Torres who was causing trouble for Greene and others from outside the ring during most of the contest, and won this fair-and-square. Mr. Greene now has a shot at the NECW Television Title (currently held by Wrestling God Scott Levesque) exercisable at a time of his choosing. Let’s hope he ruminates on this situation carefully before daring to step into the ring with Levesque.
Kevin Castro Interviews The Masshole Mike McCarthy & Todo Loco
Mr. Castro, in a bizarre development, announced Mike McCarthy as his “Best Friend”. McCarthy & Todo Loco agreed to work together, having gained each others’ respect in numerous brutal contests. Todo Loco even admitted that McCarthy is “not a scumbag…you’re Loco!”. (sorry, didn’t get a picture).
5. Toxis vs. Maximum Mecca. W. – Toxis (Count Out)
Maximum Mecca was scheduled to face Davienne in her NECW debut. She was shocked to see the substantial wrestler Toxis in the other corner. Ms. Mecca tried to move the former Sisterhood member and could not budge her. Mecca tried some elbows and punches to little effect. She barely survived a power splash by Toxis and probably wisely fled the scene. Toxis wins by count out and Mecca lives another day.
It was good to see a new face on the women’s roster. There’s a shortage of qualified wrestlers locally available to WWW. The Professor hopes that Ms. Mecca regroups and comes back to enhance World Womens’ Wrestling.
6. Dan Terry vs. “The Mind Eraser” Mike Graca. W. – Graca
Terry is never too busy to acknowledge his loving fans. The Fittest Man in The World generously gave some tough love to the crowd, calling it “fat, out of shape, disgusting losers”. We all aspire to his level of physical excellence. It was valuable feedback for all.
Mr. Terry dominated the kid, who is getting a push by the office, appearing with much more experienced veterans such as Superstar Shawn Candido. Somehow, the disturbed youth on the day pass managed to reverse a near pin for a pin of his own. In the process of this the Living Hercules was dazed and had to be helped out of the ring. Graca got very lucky two shows in a row (he defeated Candido in Everett last month).
Then just before the much-anticipated Genesis/Jacob match, a car blew up at the neighboring demolition derby. This was a bit of a distraction and some fans left. The magnetic pull of the Giants’ combat brought them all back in short order..
7. Genesis vs. Jacob (with Mr. Tony Ulysses). W. – Genesis
Possibly the two strongest wrestlers in the Northeast. Genesis has been steadily gaining credibility and fans at NECW for the past few years. From Jeremy Profit Flunky to beloved star. Not a bad evolution.
Mr. Ulysses had announced he was done with The End after they stood him up in Everett a few months ago. We were surprised to see him back with the bizarre Jacob. Though not too surprised since Jacob is too big a talent for a genius manager to overlook.
Ulysses predictably interfered quite a lot, masterfully avoiding the detection of Referee Mahoney. Genesis was ready for this and at one point choked the WWF veteran and threw him onto the asphalt. In an impressive display of strength, Genesis power slammed Jacob for a pin. We’ve never seen anyone even able to get Jacob in the air before.
When is Genesis going to be given the title shots (both titles) that he’s earned?
8. McCarthy & Todo Loco vs. Hollister & SWB. W. – McCarthy & Todo Loco
This was a high stakes, high energy contest. All four men gave it their all and this match alone was worth the price of admission. We thought it unwise when Mr. McCarthy got into a mat wrestling sequence against Antonio Thomas trained Greco Roman champion Hollister, but The Masshole met him move-for-move. SWB showed that he has lost none of the scientific skill and strength for which he is famous. Todo Loco didn’t do many Lucha moves but used his hands and feet as almost projectile weapons, causing a lot of pain to Hollister and Brown.
Things ended when SWB missed McCarthy and landed a serious blow to Hollister. Hollister lost his cool and confronted Brown which allowed The Masshole to pin Hollister for the win.
SWB taunted all 3 rivals with the belt as he left the pavilion, telling them to “Come and Take it” reminiscent of the Spartans of old. It should be a very interesting fall at NECW with so many worthy aspirants to the Heavyweight Title.
This was a great outdoor show in an festival atmosphere that brought in many people new to NECW and Professional Wrestling. The workers showed them what this sport is all about. Let’s hope for an even bigger crowd next week and some new fans at future events around New England. Mssrs. Goldberg and Richard nailed it once again.
