Jim Meyers, known to fans as George “The Animal” Steele, died today of natural causes at the age of 79. Mr. Meyers was one of the big names of the Eighties Wrestling Explosion. We send our condolences to his friends and family.
Here’s a repost of our Feb. 2015 item on George “The Animal” Steele:
Unlike most athletes, Professional Wrestlers have a double life. Wrestling for most is an avocation. Very few make a full-time living at the sport. Even those few elite who do are real people as well as larger-than-life characters.
George “The Animal” Steele (retired) is also Jim Meyers, coach, teacher, and Masters Degree holder. George Steele was one of the top characters in the WWF of the Eighties. He played a mute semi-intelligent beast, taking on all of the greats of his day.
