NECW is back from a hiatus to a packed house in Milton. A great time was had by all. What a chance to see old friends and to enjoy seeing the work of a lot of wrestlers we haven’t seen in a while.
Our usual in-depth match-by-match analysis will have to take a back seat to our primary mission for this evening: Documenting Paul Richard’s Retirement night. We are working on a documentary project with Paul and spent most of the evening following him around and taping him as he bade farewell to the wrestling business. We had special access backstage and in the locker room where we got a lot of footage of Paul interacting with fans, friends, workers, and assorted well-wishers. It was a great night. We did manage some snaps of the matches and can provide some limited commentary. Even The Professor can only be in one place at a time.
1. “The Almighty” Anthony Stone v. Nick Curry. W – Curry
Nick (formerly “Kid”) Curry is a third generation pro. Amazingly he got the best of The Hard Core Jesus. Great opener.
Paul Richard Retirement Ceremony
Mr. Richard officially retired after 38 years in professional wrestling. He leaves behind a big legacy at WWF, ECW, and of course NECW. Paul is going to put his energy into helping fellow wrestlers dealing with CTE. It was an emotional moment for all of us.
2. “The Heat” Chris Pyro v. “The Selfie Made Man” Vern Vicallo. W – Pyro
Pyro keeps up his aerial antics and finds a way to a tough competitor in Vicallo.
Pat’s Pit: Slyck Wagner Brown, The Masshole Mike McCarthy, Pat “The Brat” Piper, Todo Loco
This was a setup for Slyck Wagner Brown challenging Todo Loco for his title. Slyck has wanted the championship back ever since he was forced to vacate a few years ago due to injury. Mike McCarthy is in a similar boat. He lost the title to Todo Loco and has always wanted it again. At the moment his wrist is broken so he can’t wrestle. He said he would challenge whoever walked away tonight with the belt as soon as he’s healed. Piper got called out for lying about Brown trash talking Todo Loco. He talked his way out of a beating. Paul Richard had to come out of retirement after only one hour to sort out this chaos.
3. Kyler Khan v. ROBO “The Punjabi Lion. W – ROBO
Two new faces at NECW. Both youths performed with skill. We hope to see more of these two.
4. Jacob (With Mr. Fabulous Tony Ulysses) v. The Giant Pharaoh. W – Pharaoh
Only The Giant Pharaoh could make Jacob look relatively small. The two giants tried over and over to put each other off their feet with no result. Jacob had the advantage of Mr. Fabulous’ expert interference and referee distraction but it wasn’t his night. Pharaoh prevails.
5. World Women’s Wrestling Fatal Four Way: Rosie The Makeup Queen v. The Widow Belmont v. Isana v. Amanda Fox. W – Belmont
This was a real treat. All four athletes are skilled practitioners of their art. What made it special was seeing The Widow Belmont who is semi-retired and only makes limited appearances. Amanda Fox has announced her retirement at the end of this year. We took this in knowing that it was unlikely to ever be repeated. Belmont pulls out the win.
7. Tag Team Championship: Kool People (Sammy Deleon & DJ AC – Champions) v. The Maine State Posse (Alexander Lee & Danger Kid). W – Kool People
The Maine State Posse is a force. They gave The Kool People a hell of a challenge. Danger Kid especially provided a level of sadistic beating to AC and Sammy. Kool People prevail and keep their titles.
8. NECW Heavyweight Championship. Todo Loco (C) v. “Slyck Wagner Brown. W – Todo Loco
Todo Loco somehow bested one of the legends of New England. After the match Mr. Brown paid tribute to the reigning, and deserving champion. For some reason Pat Piper was allowed to sit in a chair at ringside. He provided some unwanted help by interfering with The Champion. Mr. Brown rejected this totally. Special referee Joe Mattarazo was more than patient with Piper. Mike McCarthy intervened and led Piper backstage by his ear. What a pain in the neck this guy is.
Todo Loco better stay healthy given the number of luminaries after his spot. This includes The Masshole Mike McCarthy. He’ll be hard to deny.
