Showcase Pro Wrestling
August 6, 2016
Cumberland, RI USA
Ring Announcer: Sgt. Muldoon
Referees: Zack Belair, Malik Logan
Promoter: Chris Blackheart
Commissioner: Mr. Frank Rocha
Professor’s Note: The athletes not only put on an amazing show, they sweated profusely in the process. It must have been in the high eighties in the shade and probably 100 degrees as the sun shined on the black canvas. Ouch.
Match videos will be available after 5:00 p.m EST 9 August at our YouTube channel.
Match 1. Chris Matrix v. “The Apprentice” Dante (with Doctor Ozone). W – Matrix
Dante is the protegé of Doctor Ozone and as such exhibits much of the viciousness and underhanded tactics that the rest of the stable has been using for years. Luckily for Chris Matrix his athletic ability along with years of experience and championships were more than enough to overcome any Ozone-related shenanigans. Matrix puts the punk away with a helicopter and power slam.

Match 2. Fatal Four Way: Diabolical Scott Ledeur v. Dan Ram Ramirez v. Nicholas Night v. Joe The Trash Man. W – Ramirez
All four men put in a good effort. Even the unhinged Scott Ledeur, who despite his recent breakdown is still a dangerous and skilled worker.
Ledeur had The Trash Man pinned but got confused and left the ring which allowed Ramirez to re-enter and pin The Sanitation Worker. Ledeur started talking to people who weren’t there about his unexpected loss while Referee Logan attempted to help him back stage. For some reason Night wailed on the prostrate Joe after the bell. This may have been Ramirez’ first SPW appearance. He debuted well.

Match 3. Superstar Shawn Candido (with Nikki Valentine) v. Richie Rich. Followed by Tag Team match Candido & Valentine v. Rich & Alicia. W – Candido & Valentine.
Candido pushed henchman Rich aside earlier this year and replaced him with multiple champion Nikki Valentine. Why this women’s superstar wants to assist the heel of the century is anyone’s guess. Probably comes down to dollars. Candido and Rich were fairly well matched. Valentine’s incessant interference made the difference but before Candido could close the deal trainee Alisha entered the fray and caused mayhem. Commissioner Rocha quickly announced that the match was now a tag contest. More insanity ensued with the youngster showing that she’s learned some valuable lessons at the SPW Training School. Ms. Valentine smartly ended things by a groin punch from behind on Rich. Candido capitalized and that was it.

Match 4. Midget Match: Robbie The Giant v. Brian Partington. W – Robbie The Giant (Submission)
In the spirit of the year when political correctness hit the wall, Showcase clearly announced this contest as a Midget Match. Wow. No one died and the sun kept shining.
Robbie The Giant is not a novelty act. He’s one of the top technical talents in The Northeast and has traveled internationally as a star in his own right. He can also be funny as well as exasperating to watch. (He blocked our camera lens with a Frisbee just to be a pain in the rear). Partington gave him a good match with comedy of his own. The Giant was upset with disrespectful fans which prolonged the contest that he would inevitably win (no disrespect to Brian Partington who is a rising talent). Robbie is that good. We’ve seen him beat the snot out of men twice or more his size many times over the past few years.
Robbie gets a submission with a killer arm bar.

Match 5. Sensational Scott Levesque v. Carlos Esteban. W – Levesque
New England’s premier wrestler had little trouble with the South American newcomer. Actually it was an honor for Esteban to be beaten up by the wrestling god. Mr. Levesque treated the fans to a chance to respond to his rhetorical question that answers itself: “Who’s The Man?” several times. Levesque easily finishes off the Peruvian with a DDT and a casual backwards pin.

Match 6. Tag Team Championship: The Fellowship (Osiris West & Soldier of God Ronnie Ribs) with Doctor Ozone and Apprentice Dante v. The Middlesex Express (Steven Lust & Steven Broad). W – The Fellowship
The Fellowship’s arrogance knows no bounds. They strut and preen and brag about the 450+ days they have held the titles, never quite using the same day number twice. They had no respect for a team that has given them close calls several times over the past year and are fully capable of dethroning anyone. It’s hard to see how Broad and Lust could have beaten four opponents. The addition of Dante as goon has only raised the bar for any aspirants. Ribs and West used their famous “Nail in The Cross” finisher with West pinning Broad.
It was great to see TME back in Showcase. These two seem like the major threat to the title now that The Refflers are no more and The Glamour Express has gone to radio silence.

Match 7. Heavyweight Championship: Benny Blanco (C) v. Buck Nasty. W – Blanco (DQ)
Blanco has smoothly transitioned into his role as champion. He has confidence, grace, style, and can bring it in the ring. Nasty on the other hand is a self-sabotaging fool who ruins his own chances at winning by getting himself disqualified just to prove some unclear point. Our recommendation is that he get one more title shot based on his record and that’s it.
After an even contest where Blanco got Nasty off his feet more than anyone before, both men throw Referee Belair to the canvas during a slugfest of which Buck got the better part. Nasty KOs Blanco with the Heavyweight belt and is disqualified. The redneck cheated himself out of the gold once again.
